The tapping hole of the converter should endure high temperature and high oxidizing molten steel scouring in long term, the working environment is harsh. So maintenance must be carried out regularly to ensure its normal working. Earlier, steel pipe is used at converter tapping hole and brasque is used to fill the gap. This process is simple for operation, fast in forming, and short in operation time (10-15 min/time), but it also has the disadvantages of insufficient strength, short life, and not resistant to scouring. Under normal circumstances, the average service life is less than 40 times. Even though, the quality of the steel can’t be promised, and steel liquid dispersing often occurs. So more advanced of aluminum carbon sleeve bricks are adopted to replace the current process.
Alumina Carbon Sleeve Bricks Technical Principle
Alumina carbon sleeve bricks inserting technology: When the tapping hole is severely deformed and can not meet the tapping requirements, tapping hole needed to be enlarged to 240mm standard hole with specialized tap hole drill, and then corresponding size of alumina carbon sleeve bricks can be coated to nested to it. The gap can be filled with tapping hole brasque or gunning mix material. Due to the erosion resistance and high temperature corrosion resistance of aluminum carbon sleeve bricks, the service life can be more than 150 times. At the same time, the tapping hole only has slight deformation, no dispersing, small temperature drop and keep long time stability, which can increase production efficiency, stabilize the steel yield, decline the tapping temperature and reduce the amount of slag.
Sleeve Brick Size
The main materials of sleeve bricks are alumina and carbon, and the size should meet the following requirements: First, service life and tapping time. The service life is controlled by the wall thickness, and the tapping time is determined by the inner diameter of sleeve bricks; Second, the manufacturing cost, using as little material as possible to achieve the best performance. By testing different sizes of sleeve bricks, combined with the process conditions of the steel factory to finally determine the size of the sleeve bricks.
Sleeve Bricks Application Effect
1. By integral nesting of sleeve bricks to converter tapping port, the tapping process is stabilized, and the alloy yield can be effectively improved. Tapping hole dispersing and leakage are avoided, the production conditions and tapping operation environment are significantly improved.
2.Although the operation time of installing the sleeve bricks is similar to that of installing steel pipes, the service life of sleeve bricks is at least twice that of steel tubes, steel smelting efficiency is greatly increased.
