Continuous casting steel ladle’s working condition is severer than mold casting steel ladle, so continuous casting steel ladle should choose high-quality refractories. EAF ladles and converter ladles have different working conditions, such as turnover speed, temperature fluctuation, etc. So different refractory materials should be chosen correspondingly.
Eaf Continuous Casting Ladle Refractories
As said earlier, EAF smelting turnover speed is slow, great temperature fluctuation is apt to cause ladle lining crack and spalling, moreover, continuous casting and refinery make the working condition harsher, so ladle lining should be built by high quality firebricks. Slag line is usually built by magnesia carbon bricks. Melting bath(including wall and bottom) is normally built by alumina magnesia carbon bricks or magnesia carbon bricks, in Europe, carbon binding unburned magnesia calcia bricks are adopted in some steel factories. Only a few factories choose unburned alumina magnesia bricks or high alumina bricks, which can improve thermal conduction and solve carbon increasing problem. Magnesia mortar is usually used as bricks joints sealing material. With regard to patching, magnesia gunning mix, alumina magnesia patching mix and alumina magnesia carbon coating material are widely used.

Converter Continuous Casting Ladle Refractories
Converter continuous casting ladle’s turnover speed is quicker, temperature fluctuation is smaller and working condition is better. So for small size converter ladles, bauxite magnesia castable is used to construct integral lining and can be patched to prolong service life.
For middle size and large scale ladles, corundum magnesia castable and corundum alumina magnesia spinel castable are usually used as ladle wall and bottom working lining. Slag line zone is usually built by magnesia carbon bricks. Castable which can be worked by gunning casting have been applied in some countries and have obtained very nice effect. Gunning castable includes alumina magnesia gunning castable, magnesia gunning castable, magnesia spinel gunning castable and so on.
