Main function of insulating brick is heat preservation , reduce heat losses. Generally, insulating bricks do not contact with the flame. While the fire brick generally contact with flame directly, which is mainly used to be grilled by flame. Generally it can be divided into two types, unshaped refractory material and shaped refractory.
Unshaped refractory material, also named as castables, it is a kind of mixing powdery granules made of a variety of aggregate, one or various adhensive. It must be mixed with one or multiply liquids and stir evenly, has strong liquidity.
Shaped refractory material, generally fire brick, its shape has standard regulation, also can be processed temporarily according to the realistic demand.
Main Distinction of Insulating Brick and Fire Brick
- Thermal insulating property:
Heat conductivity coefficient of insulating brick is generally at 0.2~0.4 ( average temperature 350±25℃)w/m.k, while the heat conductivity coefficient of fire brick is above 1. 0(average temperature 350±25℃)w/m.k, thus it can be concluded that the thermal insulation properties of insulation brick is much better than the fire brick.
- Refractoriness:
The refractoriness of insulating brick generally under the 1400 ℃, while the refractoriness of fire brick is above 1400℃.
- Density
Generally, insulating brick is light weight insulation material, which density is at 0.8-1.0g/cm3, while the fire brick density is above 2.0g/cm3.
Overall speaking, fire brick has the characteristics of high mechanical strength, long service cycle, good chemical stability, no chemical reaction with material and good resistance to high temperature, the maximum heat-resistance temperature can reach to 1900℃. Especially suitable for chemical fertilizer plant high and low temperature converter furnace, conversion furnace, hydrogenated converter, desulfurizer and methanation furnace, it plays roles of dispersed gas-liquid and supporting, covering and guard catalyst, also can be used in the hot blast heater and thermal conversion equipment of steel field.
Besides, fire bricks have the advantages of large density, high strength, wear-resistance, good corrosion resistance, small thermal expansion coefficient , high grinding effect, low noisy, long service life, no contamination with material, is a kind of excellent abrasive medium suitable for all kinds of grinding machine.
There is a big difference between insulating brick and fire brick, the using environment, range and function are different. Different locations with different material, when choosing the refractory material, we should according to the realistic situation to decide which refractory material is suitable.
