Alumina silica bricks are also called aluminum silicate bricks or alumino-silicate bricks. Alumina silica brick is the general name of refractory bricks whose main composition are Al2O3 and SiO2. Alumina silica brick is usually made by refractory clay ( sagger or fire clay), high alumina bauxite, sillimanite, and other materials such as manmade corundum and mullite compound material.
Alumina Silica Fire Bricks
According to the Al2O3 content in the bricks, alumina-silica brick can be divided into semi-silica brick, clay brick, and high alumina brick. Semi-silica bricks are those, where alumina content is between 15%~30%, clay bricks are those where alumina content is between 30~48%, similarly, high alumina bricks alumina content is higher than 48%. Alumina silica brick can also be divided into burned alumina silica brick and unburned alumina silica brick.
Clay Bricks
The clay brick’s main materials are chamotte lightweight clinker or plastic clay. Clay brick contains 30%~40% of alumina, it belongs to weak acid refractory material and can resist acid slag and acid gas corrosion. Clay brick has good thermal shock properties, and can endure drastic cooling and heating. Clay brick has similar refractoriness to silica brick, which is about 1690~1730℃, but refractoriness under load is more than 200℃ lower than silica brick. It is usually produced by the method of high-temperature sintering or chemical bonding.
Clay bricks can be divided into blast furnace clay bricks, hot blast furnace, and glass kiln large-scale clay bricks. Blast furnace clay bricks are used to build the furnace throat, body, and bottom lining of a small blast furnace and the furnace body of a large blast furnace. Hot blast clay bricks are mainly used in furnace bodies, checker chambers, and partitions. Hot blast clay brick needs to have good thermal shock resistance, high refractoriness under load, low creep, and so on. Glass kiln large-scale clay bricks are bigger than 50kg, and the dimension deviation is required to be controlled.
High Alumina Bricks
High alumina brick is a kind of alumina silica fire brick with a content of alumina oxide of more than 48% Al2O3. It is calcined and formed by the raw material of bauxite or the material with a high content of AL2O3. High thermal stability, the refractoriness is more than 1770℃. Good slag resistance, used for the liner of masonry steel-making electric stoves, glass furnaces, and cement revolvers.
The high alumina fire bricks can be applied to build blast furnaces, hot blast stoves, electric furnace roofs, blast furnaces, reverberatory furnaces, and lining rotary kilns. In addition, the high alumina refractory bricks are widely used in checker bricks of heat accumulating type, chock plugs for gating systems, nozzle bricks, and so on. High alumina bricks are widely used in industries of blast furnaces, hot blast stoves, electric furnaces, refining furnaces, glass furnaces, and so on.
Alumina Silica Brick Applications
Almost all of the hot blast furnaces in all countries adopt alumina silica brick as construction material. When the air temperature bellows 900℃, ordinary clay fire brick is a good choice. When the air temperature is between 900~1100℃, high alumina brick can be used as lining and checker bricks. When air temperature is higher than 1100℃, high alumina bricks or mullite bricks can be used as furnace lining and checker bricks.
